DIY Gifts: Personalised Children's Gifts

Long ago, in a land far far away I used to be artistic. In an attempt to resurrect my crafty side I’ve been making some of my own gifts and I’ll be sharing some of my favourites on the blog over the next few months.

When it comes to getting presents for children it’s sometimes hard to think of a gift which will stand out from the crowd and won’t quickly be relegated to the bottom of the toy bin.

I think personalised presents for children are great – particularly ones that are family related. Not only will it be a keepsake that is cherished by parents and children alike they can also help children with large families recognise and learn the names of relatives they don’t often see.

Here are three personalised gifts which have stood out for me recently:

Family Board Book
My super talented and crafty sister-in-law made Ivy a board book for Christmas with photos of all her cousins. It’s beautifully made and it’s chunky enough that Ivy can hold it and turn the pages herself.  Each page has a picture of each cousin with some joint photos at the back.

Family Guess Who
I made this for my niece for Christmas by getting an old Guess Who game from Ebay and replacing all the cards with photos of family members. Josh and I quite enjoyed playing it, even without the children!

Family Pairs

I recently saw this easy DIY pairs game for children and it gave me the idea to make a pairs game with photos of family members instead. This would be a really simple and cheap to do and would especially help young children to recognise relatives.

Have you got any ideas for personalised gifts for children? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.

  4. I love the board book - beautiful!! Are the pages made from some kind of heavy cardboard? They look quite thick but I don't know where you would purchase that...
