DIY gifts: Personalised Button Cushion

Long ago, in a land far far away I used to be artistic. In an attempt to resurrect my crafty side I’ve been making some of my own gifts and I’ll be sharing some of my favourites on the blog over the next few weeks...

I made this personalised button cushion for my Niece for Christmas. It was my first IKEA hack and was surprisingly easy.

I started with a plain cushion cover, a selection of buttons, some embroidery thread and a needle.

I printed out an ‘E’ shape and, cutting it out into a stencil drew a faint outline onto my cushion cover. {I'm sure there is a better crafty way than using a pencil but hey, my only needle comes from the tiny sewing kit my Mum bought me when I left for university - let's not get ahead of ourselves!}

I then placed the buttons onto the stencil in the order I thought looked good. {unless you’re planning on completing this in one sitting, or have a fancy-pants craft room you can leave it in I’d suggest doing this on a tray. I didn’t and then had to try and move my stencil from the kitchen table buttons and all – doh!}

Then it was just a case of sewing! It didn’t take me as long as I thought it would and I was really pleased with the results. I hope my Niece was too!

If you have any DIY gift projects you want to share I’d love to feature you in my DIY gifts series! Email me at countrydreaming@googlemail.com if you're interested.

  2. That is so darn cute! You are crafty! And I wish I had a fancy-pants craft room. The dining room table will have to suffice. If I ever get this hat knitted (it's my first official knitting project) I'll have to share it with you. I just learned how to knit!
