Wild Swimming

On Thursday we wanted to have a lazy day so we started out late and headed to Glenbrittle. We had heard that this area was really beautiful but as we approached the weather closed in and it started to rain very heavily.

A river, Allt Coir a Madaidh runs down a valley plunging into numerous aqua-blue pools called the Fairy Pools.

It’s hard to see on these photos, but the water really was clear, blue and beautiful. Even though it was raining really hard the water still looked very tempting.

So tempting that we felt that we just had to take a dip. Although the vivid blue water looks like it should be tropically warm I can confirm that it was FREEZING, which is unsurprising considering it has come straight down from the Black Cullins.

There are two pools half way up the glen with a waterfall and plenty of flat stones for dives and jumps. There is even an underwater arch between the two pools.

Even though we didn’t have a towel or swimming costume I’m so glad we went in…it was definitely memory making!

We then rushed back to the cottage and had hot chocolate with marshmallows to warm up!

Kate Rew {the author of Wild Swim} votes the Fairy Pools as one of her favourite ever Wild Swims. You can see a video of her swimming in the pools here.
